Cannabis Seeds

Feminized marijuana seeds

Feminized cannabis seeds are designed to produce only female plants.Usually, a cannabis seed can develop into a male or female plant; the entire process is determined by the sex expressing X and Y chromosomes. “Feminization” is a process of conditioning female plants to obtain male pollen needed for seed production.A plant with two X chromosomes will be female 99% of the time, while regular cannabis seeds (XY genetic set) sometimes have a tendency to produce more male than female individuals.

What Are Feminized Seeds?

If you’re new to growing, you might not be sure what a ‘feminized seed’ is or why it’s important. Here’s the deal. Marijuana plants come in both male and female sexes, but only one grows bud for smoking – the female plant.

This is why growers love feminized seeds. Using them takes the guesswork out of growing. In the old days, you dealt with this by planting double the plants you thought you needed. Why? Simple. When they grew you’d prune out the males and hope you had enough to hit your goal. You’d also have to work quickly to both identify the plant’s sex (which isn’t easy) and then prune it. Why?

Because fertilized females produce disappointing harvests.

That’s the beauty of feminized seeds! Using them means you don’t have to worry about your next crop because everything you plant will produce! The only downside is that your current flowers won’t produce more seeds for your next grow.

If you do not want to manage your plant’s light-needs indoors or wait for Fall before your plants start to flower, autoflower seeds may be for you. These grow smaller plants but they flower automatically after a few weeks. Regardless of the number of hours they get. All our autoflower seeds are female as well.

We also sell regular seeds which may be female but may contain male plants as well. Most growers will buy feminized seeds so they are sure they will grow actual bud.

Feminized Seeds: Where Do They Come From?

Marijuana plants have evolved to survive in diverse conditions. To aid in this survival, marijuana plants have adapted to become male or female. More plainly put, the plant’s ability to produce flowers of both genders makes it possible for it to self-pollinate and keep producing new seeds.

So what are ‘feminized seeds’? Simple. They are the result of growers training female plants to produce pollen that is then used to fertilize other female plants. Why? Because once the female plant is fertilized with the female pollen you get seeds that grow plants that only produce all female flowers.

So why don’t more people know about this? The reason is the whole process took a lot of trial and error to get right making the whole process relatively new. If you used to grow years ago and decided to pick back up know that what used to pass as a feminized seed has evolved greatly!

Are Feminized Seeds Hermaphroditic?

Marijuana has the ability to grow flowers of either sex. This happens when outside influences from the environment put the plant under stress (temperature dropping for example). Traditionally, feminized seeds were created by putting female plants into stressful environments. There they would create male flowers that they’d use to fertilize female plants with. The problem was these seeds carried hermaphroditic traits which would result in low-quality yields. The reason for this was that these plants still had the chance to create male flowers. Things have changed. Now there are methods for producing feminized seeds with pure females. The pure females are made to produce pollen to fertilize other plants allowing the growers to breed out hermaphroditic traits. Our seeds are produced using this exact method. That’s why we ensure you get the highest quality seeds possible.
